Sedation Dentistry
Many people experience a certain degree of anxiety associated with dentistry. An unpleasant experience in the past can sometimes be a deterrent toward getting regular dental checkups and treatment. You now have the choice to be asleep during your dental visits. With the availability of new technology we can provide you with different levels of sedation from very mild to anesthesia above and beyond the nitrous oxide or the sedating medications a dentist might normally use.
How does sedation work?
Depending on your level of anxiety, we can offer you different types of sedation.
Oral sedation – is for a mild level of anxiety. There are no needles involved. Upon arriving at our office, you’ll be given an oral medication to take. Our sedation assistant will continuously monitor you during your appointment; you will never be alone in the operatory. Our caring staff will make you comfortable and once you feel you are completely relaxed we will start the procedure. IV sedation is for those with moderate to severe anxiety. This procedure is performed by our anesthesiologist.
An IV line – will be used to administer the medications. You will be asleep during the procedure and will be completely pain free. This type of sedation is recommended for children, adults and for procedures where local anesthetics and mild sedation are not enough.
